Storage Tips
Self-Storage Tips
- Be prepared and make sure you are equipped with packaging supplies to pack your belongings.
- Make use of clear plastic containers.
- Clean all items like fridges and deep freezers before putting them into your self-storage unit.
- Take extra care with fragile items by wrapping them with bubble wrap.
- Consider insurance to cover any valuable items you may be storing.
- Bubble wrap all your high polished furniture to protect them from scratching and dents.
- Leave fridges and freezers slightly open once inside your storage unit.
- Make sure that all fabrics are clean and dust free.
- Wrap cloth furniture and mattresses in cotton sheets to protect it during moving and storing. Avoid using plastic bags for long term storage, as they keep in moisture and cause Mold to grow on your items.
- Follow this general rule: large boxes for lightweight items, small boxes for heavy items. Allow enough space between boxes for good ventilation and ease of access later.
- Mark all your boxes with numbers on two adjacent sides and compile a detailed list of each box’s content.
- Picture frames and mirrors are the most likely items to break, so ensure they are properly packed by taping an “X” across the glass, wrapping them in bubble wrap and buying fitted cardboard corners to protect the edges.
- When taking apart furniture, grab some plastic baggies to store the nuts and bolts, and secure it to the piece of furniture with tape or rope.
